OPEC+ held quotas; physical oil still sets the trade

OPEC+ formally kept November targets at September required levels. That confirms the expected policy path but does not add supply while Gulf exports remain disrupted. Fresh conflict announcements in Yemen and the Black Sea raise route risk without verified lost barrels. The two-Micro-WTI tree remains positive by only $96 net and loses that edge after a three-point bull-to-bear probability shift. Keep Micro WTI flat, hold one December corn short and add zero. No simulated transaction or new weekend mark is recorded.

Dated research, not live quotes. All futures references are carried from October 2 with their real clocks: ZCZ26 497.25 cents at 14:19 Toronto plus a separate 497.75-cent USDA AMS final settlement; ZCH27 511.50 in the same final report; CLZ26 $89.43 and CLF27 $87.82 at 16:59; MGCZ26 $4,171.90, TYZ26 104.375, ESZ26 7,776.50, ECZ26 1.1290 and HGZ26 $6.5790 at 16:59. The 13.75-cent December-March corn spread is curve evidence, not booked carry income. Standard CL, ES, EC and HG remain explicit same-contract-month proxies in the quoted units where the micro contract was not observed; micro-specific expiry remains separate. Research views and scenario estimates are separate from simulated positions and performance.

OPEC+ held quotas. Physical supply still sets the oil trade

ATG global futures monitor — 4 October 2026, 12:00 Toronto

OPEC+ has now made the expected November decision formal: seven countries kept required production at September levels and scheduled their next meeting for 1 November. That removes meeting uncertainty, but it does not add a barrel of actual supply. Gulf exports have remained disrupted, and the tradable balance still depends on cargo traffic, operating infrastructure and the reopened futures curve—not the quota ceiling alone. OPEC decision, Reuters

The decision is therefore hold one short December corn contract, add zero, and wait in Micro WTI. No simulated transaction, standing order or weekend mark was recorded. Research is current through 4 October 2026 at 12:00 Toronto / 16:00 UTC; all monitored futures references retain their actual 2 October timestamps.

What changed since 06:00 Toronto

• OPEC+ formalized the November hold that delegates had already signaled. The direction was priced into the prior review; actual delivered supply remains below the policy ceiling in disrupted Gulf markets.

• Russia announced intensified strikes on Kyiv and elsewhere. It later claimed strikes on a Kyiv bridge and two dry-cargo vessels near Odesa, which Reuters could not independently verify. No oil-cargo loss was established by the cutoff. Reuters: Ukraine, Reuters: Black Sea claim

• Yemen's Saudi-backed leader announced a counteroffensive. Houthi claims involving Saudi energy infrastructure remained unconfirmed, and no measurable throughput loss was established. Reuters: Yemen

These announcements widen route and infrastructure tails. They do not justify treating an unverified claim as lost production.

Oil: a formal quota is not delivered supply

Friday's December WTI reference was $89.43 and January was $87.82, a $1.61 backwardation. That curve already priced prompt scarcity before the final OPEC+ language. Holding requirements steady neither repairs damaged infrastructure nor guarantees members can export at their ceilings.

The unchanged gap-inclusive tree for two December Micro WTI contracts assigns 28% to $98, 44% to $90 and 28% to $82 by 13 November. It weights to $90.00. Against the $89.43 standard-contract proxy, two 100-barrel micros produce +$114 gross and +$96 after $18 modeled round-trip friction. A $1 worse assumed entry changes expected net P&L to −$104. Moving just three probability points from the $98 bull outcome to the $82 bear outcome removes the entire net edge.

Sizing is not the veto. From $89.43 to an illustrative $82 stop, two micros risk $1,486 raw and $1,876 after the 1.25 adverse-loss buffer, an adverse entry tick and modeled costs—about 0.187% of NAV. The setup waits because small probability error overwhelms expected value, not because exact micro depth is unavailable.

A later entry requires measurable flow deterioration, a quantified outage or a reopened December-January curve that tightens without an equivalent price jump. Broader safe transits, confirmed lack of damage, the SOTE restart or effective stock releases weaken the long. Any MCLZ26 entry must exit by 13 November under this study; the four-month thesis cannot be assigned automatically to December.

Corn: hold the position, do not add

The paper book remains short one ZCZ26 from an assumed-nearest 500.50¢ entry. The ledger mark is 497.25¢, for $162.50 open gross P&L. USDA AMS put December at 497.75¢ and March at 511.50¢, a 13.75¢ contango. That spread is evidence of storage abundance and time value; it is not booked carry income. USDA AMS

The 30%/45%/25% tree at 460/490/532.50¢ weights to 491.625¢. From the 497.75¢ settlement, forward value is +$306.25 gross and +$290.25 after $16 prospective exit friction. From the actual 497.25¢ ledger mark, it is +$281.25 gross and +$265.25 net. A ten-point shift from target to stop makes the settlement-based expectation −$72.25. This supports retaining existing limited risk but rejects an addition.

Remaining target reward is $1,862.50 from the ledger mark. Raw stop distance is $1,762.50 and fresh buffered risk is $2,219.13. The stop remains 532.50¢, target 460¢ and mandatory exit 20 November. Monday export inspections and Crop Progress are the next physical tests.

Cross-asset challengers

No challenger clears the current corn short. Gold's 25%/45%/30% tree at $4,700/$4,300/$3,800 weights to $4,250, about +$772 net per MGC, but moving ten probability points from bull to bear makes it negative. Three MHG against the $6.579 copper proxy produce about −$255 gross and −$283.50 net under a 30%/40%/30% tree at $7.15/$6.65/$5.80.

Current-price sizing is feasible elsewhere: two MES against a 7,590 stop risk about $2,350.88 after policy buffers, and five short M6E against 1.1550 risk about $2,080.31. One conditional ZN long at 105-08 with a 103-24 stop risks about $1,917.16. Capacity is not conviction. Each setup needs a finite Sunday-reopen/Monday-ISM reassessment and an exit date compatible with the December contract.

Portfolio and next 72 hours

Portfolio revision 57 is unchanged. Cash is $1,001,475.25, open corn gross P&L is +$162.50, and NAV is $1,001,637.75 as of the last actual valuation on 2 October at 22:06:12 UTC. Gross exposure is $24,862.50; modeled margin reserve is $5,000; realized gross P&L is $1,611.75; cumulative commissions are $136.50. There are no pending orders, no capital reset and no real trades.

Unscheduled priorities are Hormuz traffic breadth, Saudi/Ecuador throughput, Black Sea shipping, stock-release implementation and harvest weather. The four-month research horizon remains 2 February 2027; December contracts require earlier exits or explicitly priced rolls.
