Rapid Hormuz normalization became less likely, but closed markets and unmeasured export losses leave no executable trade.

All seven accepted theses were reviewed. Hold yen research only; every conditional trade remains blocked and the paper portfolio stays in cash.

Dated research, not live quotes. Partial coverage: futures markets are closed. Exact-contract values are carried from original September 11 observations; current move, executable depth, current margin and several physical/package inputs are unavailable. No weekend price or zero change is invented. Research views and scenario estimates are separate from simulated positions and performance.

ATG global futures thesis monitor — September 12, 2026 evening

Cutoff: 20:45 EDT, Toronto. Data status: partial. Futures markets were closed. Every contract value below is a carried September 11 exact-contract observation with its original status and timestamp; there is no weekend price, synchronized quote, executable spread or assumed zero move. The four-month horizon remains September 6, 2026 through January 6, 2027.

Bottom line

No action; keep the simulated portfolio entirely in cash. The physical-energy regime alert remains active and rapid normalization became less likely after a senior Iranian official said Monday's Oman meeting was not expected to yield a signed Hormuz agreement. Pipeline restart, Yanbu loadings and net Saudi export loss remain unverified, so monitoring urgency is high but trading urgency is nil. Hold the yen research thesis without adding; all conditional trades remain Wait, suspended or unrated.

The paper portfolio remains $1,000,000 cash and $1,000,000 NAV. Net return, realized/open P&L, modeled costs, margin and planned risk remain zero; there were no positions, orders or fills.

Material changes since the 09:08 Toronto monitor

• Reuters published at 13:44 UTC / 09:44 EDT that a senior Iranian official did not expect Monday's Oman meeting to produce a signed Hormuz agreement. Oman had not formally announced the meeting, Bahrain would not attend, and the proposed shipping-fee arrangement remained disputed. This weakens the near-term normalization catalyst but does not prove further physical deterioration. Reuters

• Reuters analysis published at 13:15 UTC / 09:15 EDT said the Houthi position at Perim increased its ability to threaten Bab el-Mandeb. It did not establish a new closure or measured flow loss. Reuters

• NOAA CPC's 15:00 EDT outlook favored warm/wet conditions across much of the Plains for September 18–22 and 20–26. That is a modest prospective headwind to winter-wheat establishment risk, not observed crop improvement or export/basis confirmation. NOAA CPC

• NHC's 20:00 EDT outlook expected no Atlantic tropical-cyclone formation over seven days. This removes no winter-weather, feedgas or regional-basis gate from the gas watch. NHC government mirror

• No new exact-contract price, CFTC vintage, UNICA/exportable-supply release, post-WASDE export cycle, delivered basis, central-bank policy action, current margin or executable depth was verified.

No stop, target, fundamental invalidation, catalyst-failure, first-notice, expiry or roll trigger was reached. All trading stops are inactive because the paper portfolio has no positions. No fresh trend, curve, carry, basis, positioning, crowding, liquidity or measured-correlation change can be asserted from closed markets; the new items are physical/news scenarios only.

Stops, invalidations, roll, expiry and liquidity

• Reopening risk: Friday marks cannot serve as weekend fills. Verify synchronized bid/ask, native spread depth, current margin and physical status before any new paper risk; gaps can cross inactive watch levels.

• 6JZ26: review/roll December 7–11 before December 14 last trade and December 16 delivery. Policy-premise failure, not price alone, is the fundamental invalidation.

• VXV26/VXZ26: October 21 and December 16 expiries precede January 6; no approved replacement plan exists.

• NGF27/NGH27: January last trade December 29 and first notice December 30; March dates February 24/25, 2027. Exit or restructure before the January boundary.

• FOATZ26/FGBLZ26: December 8 last trade and December 10 delivery precede the horizon; the package remains undefined.

• SBH27: February 26, 2027 last trade and March 1 first notice. ZWH27/ZSH27: February 26 first notice and March 12 last trade.

• SOFR: SR3Z26 last trade is March 16, 2027; “Z26” denotes the reference-quarter start, not a December 2026 expiry. Incomplete implementation—not delivery—is the blocker.

Regime and superior-opportunity check

The East–West pipeline/Perim combination remains a provisional physical-energy regime alert because it threatens both a Hormuz bypass and Bab el-Mandeb. The evening update reduces confidence in a rapid diplomatic resolution, but it still provides no operator-confirmed restart status, measured Yanbu loadings, net export loss or executable futures price. Reported 4–5 million b/d recent throughput is not an incremental loss estimate.

There is no superior new futures trade. Retired crude-normalization and product-spread theses remain retired; evidence against normalization is not an automatic reverse signal. Monitoring urgency is high before reopening; trading urgency is none.

Actions ranked by urgency

1. Keep the paper portfolio in cash; create no order or intention from closed-market headlines.

2. At reopening, verify pipeline status, actual exports and synchronized futures markets; check VIX, yen and gas first.

3. Hold the yen thesis without adding above its band.

4. Wait on VIX: catalyst quality improved, but Friday's spread missed entry and persistence can support December too.

5. Wait on wheat/soy and sugar: physical and confirmation gates remain absent; weather slightly weakens wheat relative value.

6. Wait on gas; suspend SOFR; no action on OAT/Bund.

What could change decisions before the next monitor

• Operator-confirmed pipeline restart, measured Yanbu loadings and restored Hormuz/Red Sea traffic would reduce the regime alert; prolonged outage plus verified export loss would strengthen it.

• A synchronized VIX Oct–Dec spread inside −1.20 to −1.05 with usable depth and a distinct October-relative catalyst could activate the watch; a gap above the band removes value.

• 6JZ26 back inside .00635–.00639 with durable yen demand and complete execution/roll inputs could justify an add; .00618 remains price invalidation.

• Gas Jan–Mar at or above $1.10 still needs synchronized legs plus regional basis, feedgas, margin, depth and adverse-winter clearance.

• Wheat/soy needs two genuinely post-WASDE export cycles and delivered-basis confirmation. Sugar needs current exportable-supply/UNICA evidence and a prospective failed retest.

• SOFR needs a complete post-FOMC H27/Z26 thesis with explicit carry, target, stop and loss scenario. OAT/Bund needs sourced CTD/repo/DV01 hedge mathematics.
